How To Install Your Own Putting Green
Clear the area of any brush or debris.
Before getting started, it is necessary to strip away any existing grass and the top four inches of soil. To ensure your project goes as smoothly as possible, ensure you abide by local regulations when disposing of waste material.
Install the base layer
After achieving an even surface, spread a 3-inch layer of base material to create the ideal platform with adequate drainage. Activate the moisture in the land and use a compactor to form a perfect foundation before laying your materials down.
Unroll the synthetic turf and place it into position.
Ensure the grass is not stretched across its foundation to guarantee a beautiful, thick turf for your yard. Sunlight will help it to expand and reach its full potential – expose it to 30-60 minutes of direct sunlight before installation.
Trim around the edges to fit your space perfectly
Cut the new grass to fit precisely around your putting green’s unique shape using a box cutter for precision, leaving an extra quarter-inch or half-inch beyond each edge. Then secure each seam with tape and adhesive for added security and evenness.
Secure seams and edges
Secure your turf to its 3-inch base by hammering in 40-D 5-inch non-galvanized turf nails at 6-inch intervals. For further reinforcement, slip extra pins along seam lines. Once completed, brush the newly laid surface with a power or push broom and lift each blade before you apply infill for an even better look!
Add the infill
The amount of infill you use will determine the aesthetic, performance, and longevity of your putting green. Use a drop spreader for an evenly distributed application. Afterward, use either a power broom or push broom to brush through the turf. Rinse away any extra dust with water when you’re finished!
